On 25th June, 2016, IMT Nagpur campus came alive with the notes of Classical Indian music. The concert was organized by the Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) which popularizes the Indian culture in the hearts of people. We were privileged to have two prominent artists, Ustad Nishat Khan on Sitar and Pandit Ram Kumar Mishra on Tabla with us who are masters of this art. The program started with felicitation of guests and lightening of the lamp by the guests and Professor Anil Kumar (PGDM, Chairperson) and Dr Jitendra Sharma (Dean, Academics).
The artists started with the afternoon raga to create a beautiful and blissful musical ambience to begin the melodious function. The ease with which they played the instruments and the sequence of raga in the performance moved each one present in the hall. The duo touched our souls and we found serenity in the pitched notes of the Sitar accompanied by the regular beats of the Tabla. The solemnity of the raga was followed by some popular Bollywood tunes. The two instruments in spite of being so unique in their own way matched up a common wavelength to make the people delve deep in the musical saga. The melody of the Sitar and the rhythm of Tabla could not stop the music lovers from getting mesmerised and engrossed in the performance. It was a short yet enriching journey for each one of us in the path of music. It was a realization of the power of Indian music and our deeply rooted tradition.
