Thousands of thoughts ran through my mind while I was sitting inside a tent with seven people I had not even known a week back and now, they were my family. The trip was organised by Youth Hostel Association of India (YHAI) and we assembled at Aut, the base camp in Himachal Pradesh.
Being an adrenaline junkie, mountain biking was an obvious choice. After a day of acclimatization, we were introduced to our team mates and handed over our mountain bikes. The next eight days were absolutely exhilarating, as we pushed ourselves to paddle uphill towards our destination. Our campsite was set by the banks of the river Beas. There were moments when we had almost given up but somehow, we motivated each other and kept pushing ourselves. It was then, that I learnt to push myself beyond my limits. Looking back at the distance I had covered when I reached the top of the mountain, I felt proud of myself. We had conquered the Himalayan Mountains on our mountain bikes and after coming back downhill at break neck speed, it was time for us to disperse.
This expedition of mine made me realise that life is full of challenges and the way to triumph is to keep trying. With a bag full of memories and experiences, it was time to put these lessons to practice.
