Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Nagpur and Ghaziabad jointly organized Convocation 2009 on March 21, 2009. The joint Convocation was presided over by Anand G Mahindra, Vice-Chairman & Managing Director, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, Bakul Nath Vice President - IMT, Dr BS Sahay, Director, IMT Ghaziabad and Dr Anwar Ali, Director, IMT Nagpur.

Gracing the occasion, Mr. Mahindra incited the young student managers by saying “The old order is changed, and nobody quite knows that what the new order is going to be which will make this generation first of new breed. The great challenge will be to wrest triumph out of what appears to be a global disaster, to build on the lessons of the past to secure a better future.”

He further raised their spirits by adding “Tackling these difficulties will test students’ resilience and courage. It will call for imagination, innovation, and bold action. And, it will call for a ringing reaffirmation of values like integrity, trustworthiness, vision, and good governance-which you [students] will have to help restore. The current crisis has given you an opportunity to explore new dimensions and set examples for the generations to follow.”

In this fully charged up environment, he laid emphasis on the fact that our country may be in an economic slowdown but recession would not be the appropriate word “The biggest reason for that is we are an agriculture-based economy and our 65% people are living in rural areas. These people are mainly farmers and they do not even know how does economy work. Whatever they know about current economic crisis is after listening radio, watching television, and reading newspapers as till date they do not have encountered recession personally.” And hence he urged the future carriers of the economy to take the charge and with their integrity and vision take India to new heights.

Dr Anwar Ali, Director, IMT Nagpur also added glory to this moment by putting forward the fact that a total of 90 research papers were published by the faculty during the academic year and executive development programmes were also started at Nagpur. The faculty at IMT, Nagpur authored around 16 books, 154 research papers in national/ international journals and international conferences including ten case studies. Around 400 senior executives and government officials were trained in the academic year 2008-2009 in different areas of management as part of Management Development Programme. During 2008-09, eight outgoing and twelve incoming students participated in foreign exchange programme with partner institutions.
