Frequently Asked Questions on admission to PGDM programmes
 
 
Can I change my preference?
 
  Due to administrative difficulties, it is not possible to let you change your preferences At this stage. However we will consider your preferences given as the time of GD/PI. It may be possible to change the programme at the end of first year.
 
I am in waiting list, how will I know whether I have been offered admission?
 
  As soon as the last date for receipt of fees is over, we will start allotting the seats to fill up the vacant seats. We will inform by email as well as by an official latter. Allotment of streams will be based on rank, choice of stream and vacancy position.
 
Will you go on upgrading and filling vacant seats?
 
  Yes, as candidates are upgraded vacant seats in other streams will be allotted. This process will continue till the beginning of the course.
 
What about upgradation?
 
  In case, a vacancy arises in a programme which was at a higher preference than your current allotment, then we will automatically upgrade you to that. The upgradation will be based on your rank in the merit list.
 
Will I be upgraded to IMT Ghaziabad?
 
  No. IMT Ghaziabad and Nagpur lists are independent both the institutes have their own merit lists and waitlists
 
What about the refund policy?
 
  As a responsible corporate citizen, our refund policy will be governed by the regulations of All India Council of Technical Education. For further details, you can visit the website of AICTE.
 
Can I change my programme, For ex. PGDM to PGDM (F), after I start my classes?
 
  At present No. You have been admitted to a specific programme. However, at the end of first year, it may be possible to allow change of programmes, subject to vacancy availability and students wanting mutual exchange.
 
Why do you have these different programmes?
 
  These programmers have been conceived to address different needs of the industry. As we understand, financial sector and IT sector are on an electrifying growth path. Therefore, the two specialized courses have been conceived.
 
How are these programmes structured?
 
  Very similar to any other MBA course. There will be 25 compulsory courses, 14 elective courses in different functional areas and 1 summer internship.
 
I am being told by my friends that once I am in PGDM, I can't specialize in finance or IT?
 
  Not true. You can specialize in finance or IT even if you are in PGDM. However, you will be required to take courses in other functional areas also. Please refer to the chat below.
 
What will be the policy on specializations?
 
  Specialization is based on the number of elective courses you have done in a particular functional area. Usually, if you have done 5 elective courses in a particular functional area, you will be considered to have specialized in that area. For example, if you have done 5 elective courses in HR, then HR will be one of your specializations.
Can I specialize in a functional area other than my own programme? For ex. Can I specialize in finance if I am a student of PGDM or PGDM (IT).

Can I stick to just one specialization?
 
  In principle, Yes. However, that specialization has to be from the compulsory specialization list applicable to your programme. But, you have to take electives from all other functional areas, even though you may not specialize in any of those areas.
 
Will I be allowed to take all the electives I want to take?
 
  Not always. It is subject to a minimum number and maximum number that can be accommodated in a course. This is the practice in all the institutions all over the world. In case of number of students wanting to opt for a course is more than the capacity for the course, then students will be allowed to register based on some objective and transparent criteria.
 
I am in PGDM. Can I apply for a job in finance or Can a person from PGDM (F) apply for a job in marketing?
 
  Placements rules at IMT Nagpur are decided collectively by the students, subject to their reasonableness and institute's long term interests and relationship with the corporate's. As of now, institute does not intend to restrict students from applying to jobs based on their programmes or specializations.
