U.S. EMBASSY OFFICIALS
DELIVER SPEECH AT IMT NAGPUR

Officials from the United States Patent and Trademark Office of the U.S. Embassy, New Delhi, were present in IMT Nagpur to enlighten the students on the topic ‘Intellectual Property Laws.’ Considering the needs of the changing global scenario, the Institute of Management Technology, Nagpur, took this proactive step and invited the experts from the field

Mr Dominic Keating, First Secretary for Intellectual Property in the U.S. Embassy, was present to speak on the growing importance of Intellectual Property Laws. The main area of his focus was Patents and Industrial Designs, which are a part of IP Laws and have been created to ensure that any industrial innovation cannot be wrongfully copied by others. Emphasis was put on how these laws can help the students in their managerial career thereby creating competitive advantages.

Ms Sanjit Kaur Batra, Intellectual Property Specialist with the U.S. Embassy at New Delhi, threw light on the uses of Copyright Laws. These laws grant exclusive rights to publish and sell literary or musical or artistic work, thereby preserving and promoting creativity. She also stressed on the fact that there is still scope for improvement in Indian IP Laws, which are currently being worked upon by the government of India.

Snigdha Mathur, a second year student of IMT-N said “This interactive lecture provided plenty of insights on the issue of preserving what is ours and making good use of it, and it is going to help us immensely in our future careers.” The officials too were quite impressed by the enthusiasm and inquisitiveness shown by the student participants. The institute is of opinion of conducting such scholarly events at regular events so that the young student managers are kept abreast of what’s going around in the corporate world.
